In the final phase of transitioning from 2G to 4G, Viettel has been actively implementing solutions to complete the plan ahead of schedule. Starting from September 20, Viettel has provided free 4G devices to 700,000 remaining subscribers still using 2G phones, with a budget of up to 300 billion VND. After one week of implementation, more than 200,000 devices have been delivered to customers, reducing the number of 2G subscribers to nearly 500,000.

The supported devices are basic 4G phones suitable for essential calling and listening needs. These phones feature keypads, loud volume, and voice assistance for dialling, and some models come with Cloud phone functionality, allowing access to OTT apps. At 12,000 mobile device exchange points set up in villages, hamlets, and densely populated areas, Viettel has coordinated with community digital transformation teams to spread digital skills among residents.

In addition to gifting and discounting phones, Viettel has employed other strategies for the remaining 2G subscribers, including callbot services that notify customers of the 2G shutdown date and provide incentives for upgrading to 4G, sending messages before outgoing calls from 2G subscribers, and consulting customers on transitioning before the 2G network is discontinued, as well as providing care for newly upgraded customers.

Following the roadmap set by the Ministry of Information and Communications, Viettel has taken decisive measures to accelerate the transition. In the final phase, in August alone, more than 3 million 2G phones were successfully upgraded to 4G.

Over the past year, Viettel has continued to expand its 4G coverage, installing over 6,000 new 4G base stations, bringing 4G coverage to more than 96%. The goal is to reach over 98% population coverage by 2025.
